Perrish Cox, who is in a battle with Brice McCain to retain his starting cornerback position, will not play for the Tennessee Titans in tonight’s preseason opener against the San Diego Chargers due to an ankle injury.
Cox had made a move to secure the job when McCain missed about a week of training camp with an ankle injury, as he earned praise from Titans coach Mike Mularkey for his play in practice.
Cox suffered the injury in Friday’s practice, but it is not believed to be serious.
With Cox out, McCain will get the start on the outside, and B.W. Webb will likely move into McCain’s spot as the nickelback.
Also out for the Titans tonight are receiver Kendall Wright (hamstring), linebackers Aaron Wallace (ankle) and Kevin Dodd (on PUP with a foot injury), tackle Josue Matias (knee) and cornerback Cody Riggs (concussion).
