‘Boss Hogg’ Lewan makes grand entrance at press conference

Armed with a new five-year, $80 million, Taylor Lewan played the moment to its fullest on Friday, entering his media press conference wearing a white Boss Hogg suit and hat from the old “Dukes of Hazzard” show, complete with cigar.

Lewan was flanked by his fellow Titans offensive linemen, as well as his wife and daughter.

“It’s the Dukes of Hazzard. We’re in the South. Everything is from Nashville, Nashville made,” Lewan said in paying tribute to the city and his new deal by referencing the classic late ’70s sitcom.

Perhaps there is some appropriateness to that, given that four-plus seasons in Nashville has helped make Lewan a premier player in the league and now the highest-paid left tackle in the NFL with $50 million guaranteed money.

“I just haven’t even had an opportunity to think about it, this morning coming in to sign the contract and literally going to meetings and then to practice,” Lewan said. “But I am extremely happy to be a part of this team for a few more years. I think it’s going to be a special few years for all of us.”

Lewan said the big contract won’t change his approach to how he plays the game.

“The only thing I can be is the best left tackle I can be here. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel. I’m just here honestly to do my job an to excel at a high level,” Lewan said.

As for the Boss Hogg get-up, Lewan said he had thought of the idea two years ago, but had the suit made two days ago, not knowing at the time if the contract extension would be completed or not.
