Sebastian Tretola chosen by Titans in sixth round

The Tennessee Titans added a big body, a big physical player and a big personality in selecting guard Sebastian Tretola of Arkansas with the 193rd overall pick in the draft.

Tretola, 6-4, 314 pounds, is regarded as a big, physical type of offensive lineman, who will compete for a spot on the interior of the Titans offensive line. Tretola has the same reputation of being a mauler, much like the Titans’ first-round pick, tackle Jack Conklin.

“Whenever they brought me in for a visit, that was the biggest thing is, ‘We just love how you play the game, love how you finish. Obviously there are technical things that can worked on, but at the end of the day, they loved my mentality,” Tretola said. “Between me and the whole coaching staff, I think we all think the same thing. It’s a perfect fit.

“I’m mean, I’m nasty, and I don’t want this to sound bad, but I’m trying to make you not want to play me anymore. I don’t want you to come back out on the field once I’m done playing you.”

Tretola should figure into the mix at the Titans open left guard position where Quinton Spain, Jeremiah Poutasi and Byron Bell are already in that competition for training camp.

He said he believes he can win the job.

“I’m going to believe that I’m a starter day one. That’s how every guy should be thinking,” Tretola said.

He admits he has some technique issues to work through, however.

“It’s definitely got to be technically sound consistently. If you beat me on a play, sometimes I throw technique out the window and I’m just worried about messing you up any way shape or form, any way I can do it,” Tretola said.

Tretola has a big fun-loving side as well. He threw a touchdown pass for the Razorbacks in a game, and an online Heisman campaign began for him in 2014. Coincidentally, his new teammate Marcus Mariota and 2015 Heisman winner Derrick Henry will both be his teammates in Tennessee.

On Mariota, he said tongue in cheek. “Robbed. I’ll talk to him about that when I get there, but I was definitely robbed.”

On Henry, Tretola said with a laugh, “Derrick has done amazing things in college. He’s another Heisman winner I outperformed.”
