The Tennessee Titans have addressed their return situation as they will be adding free agent return man Eric Weems of the Atlanta Falcons.
Details of the contract were still being worked out, but a source close to Weems, confirmed that he is heading to the Tennessee.
Weems, 31, would take over for Marc Mariani in the return game, as the Titans have made a conscious effort to upgrade their special teams units.
Weems, a special teams captain for the Falcons, is the third free agent signee by the Titans this off-season. On Thursday, the Titans signed a pair of former Oakland Raiders special teams players in linebacker Daren Bates and safety Brynden Trawick.
Weems average 23 yards per kickoff return and 11.4 yards per punt return for the NFC champion Falcons in 2016.
The move also reunites Weems with Mike Mularkey and Terry Robiskie, who were his offensive coordinator and position coach with the Falcons early in Weems’ career.
Weems began his NFL career with the Falcons in 2007 and stayed with the club through 2011 before going to the Chicago Bears for two seasons, and then returning to the Falcons in 2014.
