Titans concerned with numbers at outside linebacker

The Tennessee Titans appear to have some concerns about how healthy they might be at outside linebacker for the season opener Sunday in Miami.

Derrick Morgan remains a question mark for the opener due to a knee injury. During the open potion of practice in individual work, both Morgan and rookie inside linebacker Rashaan Evans were doing side work with head coach Mike Vrabel.

Also, rookies Harold Landry (ankle) and Sharif Finch (undisclosed)were not present during the open part of practice on Monday, leaving just three healthy players on the outside during individual drills – veteran linebacker Brian Orakpo, newly acquired Kamalei Correa and third-year pro Aaron Wallace.

“I’m always concerned about the health of our team, and that’s one position where we’ll continue to evaluate. It’s good to see Kamalei Correa get in here and work with the guys today. Rak was available. Morg did some stuff with me. We’ll see where we’re at on Wednesday, but the guys that were able to go and be available today did a nice job,” Titans coach Mike Vrabel said.

Other injuries

Also not seen at practice on Monday was safety Kendrick Lewis. Right tackle Jack Conklin was able to do some work on the side as he was activated from the physically unable to perform list on Saturday as he continues to recover from left knee surgery.

Headed out

Titans cornerback Kalan Reed has taken an injury settlement from the team and has elected to become a free agent. Reed suffered a foot injury in training camp and was placed on injured reserve. At the time, there was the fear that Reed, Mr. Irrelevant in 2016, might need surgery. But a source indicated that Reed should be healthy enough to play in a couple of weeks.

Number swap

With roster cuts also comes number changes for some players Safety Kenny Vaccaro has traded No. 30 for Reed’s No. 24. Cornerback Kenneth Durden has swapped 38 for 20, and Correa has taken over Josh Carraway’s No. 44 for the regular season.

Practice squad full

The Titans have filled out their 10-man practice squad, adding four players Monday to the six they signed Sunday. On Sunday, the Titans brought back linebacker Robert Spillane, safety Damon Webb, running back Dalyn Dawkins, tackle Tyler Marz, tight end Jerome Cunningham and cornerback Josh Kalu. They were joined Monday by quarterback Logan Woodside, receiver Austin Proehl, defensive lineman Dean Simon and offensive lineman Coleman Shelton.
