Titans roll past Eagles in preseason opener

While all eyes were focused on Marcus Mariota as he begins this season looking to stay healthy and earn a contract extension, it was his two backups who led the Tennessee Titans to a 27-10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night in the preseason opener.
Mariota played just one series, completing 4 of 8 passes for 24 yards– all to newcomer Adam Humphries before giving way to new backup Ryan Tannehill, threw a pair of first-half touchdown passes. Tannehill went 12 of 16 for 130 yards and threw both his TD passes to tight ends, first connecting with MyCole Pruitt and then with Anthony Firkser.
In the second half, third-stringer Logan Woodside took the reins of the offense and directed a pair of touchdown drives as well. Woodside was 15 of 20 for 138 yards and found Cody Hollister and Tanner McEvoy for touchdowns in the second half.
One of the other stars of the Titans’ offense was wide receiver Kalif Raymond, who had six receptions for 80 yards on the night and also had a 24 yard kickoff return and a 27-yard punt return on the night.
Defensively, undrafted rookie safety JoJo Tillery had the lone Titans turnover, picking off a Clayton Thorson pass in the fourth quarter.
The Titans return to the practice field on Saturday, and next week welcome the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots to St. Thomas Sports Park for joint practices Wednesday and Thursday ahead of Saturday night’s preseason home opener.
